Questions before contacting the firm

Do I need to know which legal action to request?

No. It helps to identify the decision to be made, the relationship involved and any deadline. The legal assessment follows examination of the facts.

Can I send contracts and legal documents straight away?

A preliminary conflict-of-interest check is required first. Wait for the Studio's instructions on which documents are needed and how to send them.

Does an enquiry mean that an engagement has been accepted?

No. Availability, the scope of the assistance and its terms are agreed separately after the preliminary checks.

How should I raise an approaching deadline?

State that there is a deadline and give the date as you understand it. Sending a message does not mean that the matter has been taken on or guarantee action before the deadline. Express confirmation from the Studio is required.

Can a checklist be used to make a decision without advice?

A checklist helps gather information and identify gaps. It does not determine the outcome of a case or replace examination of the documents and applicable rules.

What does the review date mean?

Where shown, it identifies the review recorded for that version of the content. It is not automatically the publication date and does not remove the need to check for subsequent developments.
